There are many hiking opportunities around the Catskills that have varied levels of terrain.
Please hike at your own risk and note that hunting is permitted in the Gamelands so bright orange or red clothing is recommended during hunting season.
Geographic and weather conditions should determine appropriate equipment and clothing. Generally, sturdy shoes are a must.
Poison ivy is common and Lyme disease is possible throughout the hiking trails; long shirts and pants offer some protection.
Never drink untreated water. Giardiasis, a micro-organism found in open streams, can cause illness.
Hikes are in order of approximate distance from our home and typically light or moderate foot traffic.
Hike with someone.. it's more fun and safe!
During the fall months hunting season may be in effect and it's better to be safe than sorry. We don't expect you to travel with your own blaze orange hunting colors so we provide high visibility vests for your use during your stay. They're located in the two queen bedrooms closets and we just ask that you put them back when you're done using them. Wearing them will help keep you visible on all trails that may have hunters present.

So if you're not from "the woods" normally, you might discover a ton of new animals/bugs/plants that you wonder about. It's so fun to "catch" a new species and we highly recommend the "Seek" App.
It's free and no registration is involved, and no user data is collected.
Seek will ask permission to turn on location services, but your location is obscured to respect your privacy while still allowing species suggestions from your general area. Your precise location is never stored in the app or sent to iNaturalist.
Our image recognition technology is based on observations submitted to iNaturalist.org and partner sites, and identified by the iNaturalist community.
This is a great app for families who want to spend more time exploring nature together.
